Millimeter-wave Networking Workshop (mmNet 2016) in conjunction with IEEE INFOCOM 2016
One of the most promising options to significantly increase wireless data rates is to increase the communication bandwidth. Very high bandwidth channels are only available in the extremely high frequency part of the radio spectrum, the millimeter wave band (mm-wave). However, this part of the spectrum suffers from high attenuation and signal absorption and usually involves the use of highly directional links. This brings about unique challenges for the design of millimeter-wave network architectures. Past work has focused to a large degree on the radio communication aspects, but efficient millimeter-wave networking also requires changes to higher layer protocols and mechanisms such as medium access and transport protocols as well as mobility support in mobile networks.
The workshop solicits original contributions (of up to 6 pages) targeting millimeter-wave networking and communications, particularly those focused on higher layer aspects. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Millimeter-wave medium access control
- Transport protocols for millimeter-wave networks
- Mechanisms for mobility support
- Multiple access and duplexing
- Very low latency networking
- Mechanism and protocols for spectrum sharing
- Novel multi-RAT architectures supporting millimeter-wave systems
- Architectures for joint use of millimeter-wave and lower frequency networks
- Wireless access and backhaul for mobile networks
- Performance evaluation of millimeter-wave networking protocols
- Channel measurements and modeling suitable for system level design and modeling
- Millimeter-wave beamforming and MIMO techniques
- Relaying and cooperation schemes
- Beam adaptation, tracking, and initial access mechanisms
- Control plane innovations needed to support millimeter-wave
- Role of SDN and NFV in millimeter-wave networks
- New mobile network architectures to support millimeter-wave access
